Special glass
Specialty glass: glass for special applications
Specialty glass is used as a generic term for a wide variety of special forms of glass.
Specialty glass is characterized by unique properties such as high radiation resistance, anti-reflective properties, coatings, or precise processing. Due to these special features, specialty glass is frequently used in industrial settings, mechanical engineering, or for specialized applications such as in medical technology, solar energy, and electronics.
The quality requirements for specialty glass go far beyond the standard specifications for simple flat glass.
Subgroups of specialty glass include, for example, the following types:
- Specialty glass as surface mirrors
- Anti-reflective glass, e.g., for touchscreens
- Bent glass
- Opal flashed glass
- X-ray protection glass
- Sight glass
