Front surface mirrors, also known as first surface mirrors, are effective and cost-efficient glasses using aluminum as a reflective material when it comes to the reflection or deflection of radiation, especially in the visible range.
The aluminum is coated with dielectric layers that protect it and specifically enhance the reflection in the glass. The reflection from the front of the glass mirror occurs without light passing through the glass. Thus, front surface mirrors prevent the formation of double images and are used in mechanical and apparatus engineering, for inspection technology, as well as by photographers.
